The Benefits of Hemp Oil for Your Beard

So, you want a better beard?

One that provokes a compliment out of even the most hipster of beard growers?

Well, hemp oil can help.

And we don’t just mean it’ll help make you look hipster – that’s just a bonus. Hemp oil also promotes beard growth, reduces dandruff, and helps keep your beard hair well-hydrated.

But, we’ll cover all of that in more detail below. You’ll also learn where hemp oil comes from, how it’s used, and how to safely apply it.

So, let’s jump in.

What is Hemp Oil?

Most people hear hemp seed oil and think of cannabis.

And while, yes, hemp is cultivated from the cannabis plant, hemp isn’t what gets you high.

Let’s learn exactly where hemp comes from.

History of Hemp

Hemp originated in central Asia.

In its beginnings, it was used as fiber for fabric and paper, as well as a seed for cooking (similar to other grains like rice or barley).

Once hemp started to be distributed across the western world, it was used for a variety of other things. One of these new uses was as a medicine – in oil form – which takes us directly to our next point.

3 benefits of Hemp Oil for Beard

If you’re applying hemp oil to your beard, you’re bound to notice a difference.

But what exactly will change?

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of hemp oil.

1. Moisturizing Properties

For starters, hemp oil is a natural moisturizer.

It’s rich in vitamin e and omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, which are two important proteins to have a healthy beard.

Both of these help your facial hair stay nourished and moisturized, which keeps your beard looking soft and smooth – just like you want it.

2. Reducing Beard Dandruff

Secondly, hemp oil can reduce that dreaded beard dandruff.

Just like other popular essential oils, hemp oil has antibacterial properties. That helps it fight off the itchy scalp, flaking, and dandruff resting in the skin underneath your beard.

You can even make your own beard oil with all these essential oils. Learn which ones to use here.

3. Stimulating Hair Growth

Yes, hemp oil can also stimulate hair growth.

You can thank the fatty acids for that.

That’s because these fatty acids are essential in enhancing blood circulation – which naturally helps new hair follicles to grow.

And new hair follicles means a bigger and thicker beard.

But, if you’re not seeing results, you may not be old enough to grow a full beard. Learn the best age for beard growing here.

How to Use Hemp Oil for Beard

Of course, you don’t need to use hemp seed oil in a special beard product.

You can always use it just as is.

Let’s teach you how:

Applying Hemp Oil

Applying hemp oil to your beard is a straightforward process.

Here’s to do it in four steps:

Step 1: First, gently wash your beard. You can either use warm water or a specialized beard wash.

Step 2:  Next, dry your beard until it’s damp. Pat your beard dry with a towel if it’s short, or use a hair dryer on its lowest heat setting if it’s longer.

Step 3: Third, drop four to five drops of hemp oil onto your palms and rub them together.

Step 4: Massage the oil into your beard – starting at the top and working your way to the bottom.

Is Hemp Oil Safe for Skin?

You’ll be happy to learn that hemp seed oil has no known side effects.

That being said, when applying anything to your skin, you should be careful. If you notice any burning, stinging, or redness after using hemp oil – back off – as you may have an allergy.

Instead, you can try an all-natural beard oil (like Underdog).

Hemp Oil vs CBD Oil

We get it… hemp and CBD are confusing…

I mean, they come from the same plant – so why aren’t they the same thing?

Well, it’s all about the process of how they’re made.

In simple terms, hemp oil is made by cold-pressing hemp seeds. CBD oil, on the other hand, is extracted from cannabis leaves and stems.

All that means is that hemp seed oil often has no CBD or THC concentration – which CBD oil does. But don’t worry, both of these compounds have virtually no additional benefits for your beard growth – that’s why we’re talking about hemp oil.

How Long Does Hemp Oil Last?

Hemp oil can last anywhere from 12 to 17 months if properly stored.

But what does “properly stored” mean you ask?

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Keep oil at a consistent room temperature (16 to 21°C)
  • Keep hemp oil away from light
  • Keep the oil away from fluctuating temperatures (like a window, AC unit, or heater)
