Beard Oil

A softer beard that smells as good as it feels. Choose from four scents: Underdog's tobacco, cinnamon, whisky and vanilla; True North's sandalwood, pine, mint; Sandalwood Vanille's rich sandalwood, vanilla and clove; or El Presidente's invigorating citrus and cedarwood.

Each beard oil blends six hand-picked base oils — jojoba, argan, sweet almond, rice bran, inca inchi and vitamin E — to help reduce itching and flaking, soften coarse hair and support stronger, healthier growth. Developed with a cosmetic chemist and made in the UK. 30ml. £16.99.

The short version

What does beard oil actually do?

Softer hair. Calmer skin.
Applying beard oil

Dry beard hair feels rough and is harder to manage. Dry skin underneath can itch and flake, leaving you scratching your chin and brushing flakes off your shirt.

Beard oil tackles both. It softens coarse hair and helps the skin underneath retain moisture, so your beard is easier to manage and more comfortable to live with. Sweet almond oil nourishes the skin, jojoba oil helps lock in moisture, and rice bran oil gives the blend a silky feel without leaving your beard greasy.

You'll feel the softening the first time you use it, and your skin will feel better after a few days of use.

Sweet Almond OilNourishes, protects and helps repair the skin underneath
Rice Bran OilGives the blend its silky feel and absorbs easily, without a greasy finish
Inca Inchi OilSupplies fatty acids and vitamins that help nourish the hair
Vitamin EA natural antioxidant that helps reduce breakage and supports stronger, thicker hair
Once a day, after the shower

How often should you use it?

Once a day is usually enough, unless your beard is particularly dry, or you play with it a lot. After a shower, gently towel-dry your beard, then massage the oil into the skin underneath and work it through the hair.

Start with a few drops for a short beard. Add more as the length calls for it, working it down to the skin as well as through the hair. If your beard looks wet and still feels oily 20 minutes after application, use a little less next time.

Head to head

Beard oil or beard balm?

Beard oil softens the hair and looks after the skin underneath. Beard balm deeply nourishes and adds light-medium hold when you've got enough length to shape. You can use one or both, depending on what your beard needs.

Starting with one? Go for the oil. It works from stubble upwards and gives the skin underneath some attention from day one.

Sensitive skin and breakouts

If you have sensitive skin or have had breakouts with beard products before, take a look at the ingredients before choosing your next bottle. This blend uses rice bran oil for its quick absorption and light feel, with sweet almond oil and jojoba oil to care for the skin underneath.

All four oils contain fragrance. El Presidente has the lightest scent, but that doesn't make it an unscented option or tell you how your skin will respond. If fragrance is what bothers your skin, bear that in mind when choosing.

Beard oil questions

Do beard oils actually work?

Yes. Beard oil softens coarse hair and helps the skin underneath retain moisture, making your beard easier to manage and helping reduce itching and flaking caused by dryness. You'll feel the softening the first time you use it.

Will beard oil make my beard grow faster?

No. Beard oil doesn't make a beard grow faster. It helps keep the hair in better condition and less prone to breakage. Less snapping can mean a fuller-looking beard over time.

How long does a bottle last?

Four to ten weeks, depending on beard length and how much you use. Every bottle is 30ml and comes with a glass dropper.

Can I use it on my moustache and head hair?

Yes. Work a little through your moustache or use it on the ends of your head hair. Start with a small amount — you can always add more.

Do you make an unscented beard oil?

Not at the moment. All four are fragranced. If you prefer a lighter scent, El Presidente is the most subtle of the four.

What if I pick the wrong scent?

Every order is covered by our 60-day money-back guarantee. If the scent isn't for you, send it back.
